For income replacement, LifeCover calculates the lump sum your family could invest — conservatively — to pay out your lost income each year, rising with inflation, for as long as they'd depend on it (until your children are grown, until your spouse retires, or a set number of years). It then adds any mortgage, debts, education, and final expenses you selected, and subtracts coverage and savings you already have, to arrive at a recommended amount.
